Father God <-> Mother Nature

My first post is me sharing my belief system, to give my future writing better context. My belief system has evolved over time, and it works for me. I am not preaching, I am not trying to convince you to adopt it as yours.

Faith, according to Google

  1. complete trust or confidence in someone or something.
  2. strong belief in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual conviction rather than proof.

I was raised a Christian in the Anglican denomination, but in my late teens I became curious, and started asking questions. I could not blindly follow a book, especially one that has been meddled with by humans. I also did not like being told I should worship a Lord who I would have to answer to for all my sins, when according to the bible Jesus died so my sins could be forgiven. It was all very confusing.

I did not, and still don’t understand why we are told that the way to God is through his son, Jesus Christ. Apparently he was conceived through immaculate conception, I need proof. Jesus was a son of God, and so am I, we are all children of God. And I use the term God to describe a higher power, and this higher power has many names. The bible also states though shall not judge, but we have done more than judge, we have fought wars in the name of belief and religion, and we still do. What gives us the right to think our beliefs are right, or better than others?

The various religions try their best to explain to us who are what God is, and that by following their leaders and their traditions we will get closer to God.

Traditionally we refer to God in the masculine and nature in the feminine, why is this? Neither God nor nature are male or female. I once read that ”Tradition is nothing more than peer pressure from dead people.” so in my writing I will do my best to remain gender neutral when referring to God and nature.

My belief is that God is the universe, and everything in the universe is a part of God. Everything is connected, organic and inorganic. Harmonious living should be the goal of all religions, all belief systems, just imagine what that would look like.

I leave you with the chorus from a song I listen to when I need some gentle reminding…

Peace, love, more tolerance
Faith, hope trust
In the same god
In whose name we die for
Take an innocent life for
Thats not what he means
And it doesn’t matter what book you read
