Principle of Non-Resistance.

This has been a very tricky principle for me to wrap my head around, but I feel I’m heading in the right direction. According to Florence Scovel Shinn, or “Aunty Flo” as I like to refer to her, Nothing on earth can resist an absolutely nonresistant person.

So what exactly is non-resistance? To be non-resistant we need to stop judging situations or events as good or bad, they just are. A situation may feel good or bad at the time, but they are whatever we choose them to be. I have had some pretty tough things happen in my life recently, and the more I have resisted seeing them for what they are, the more I have struggled. Lately I have started looking at these situations or events with “soft eyes” and realized there is nothing I can do to change what has happened, but I can learn and hopefully grow from the experience.

Most of us feel like we have to control every aspect of our life, and if we don’t feel like we are in control we get anxious. But we have a permanent partner who can guide us, our inner teacher, also known as intuition. When we stop overthinking, and start listening to our intuition life starts to flow with ease. This requires that magical concept known as faith, faith in something greater than ourselves, faith in good, faith in one power. When we realize there is only one power, and that all other powers are created by man, we can start to live fearlessly, start to live faithfully.

The Chinese say that water is the most powerful element, because it is perfectly nonresistant. It can wear away a rock, and sweep all before it.

And so it is with life, when we allow life to flow like water we can wear away rock, (perceived hard times), and sweep all before us.

Life happens through us, not to us.
